Municipal Government Act, SNS 1998 c 18

The purpose of the Municipal Government Act is to give broad authority to councils in the Province of Nova Scotia, including to pass by-laws, and to respect their right to govern municipalities in whatever ways the councils consider appropriate within the jurisdiction given to them.

The Act gives municipalities discretion to pass by-laws in relation to animals in a variety of contexts, with a particular focus on dog by-laws.
