Municipal Powers Act, RSQ, c C-47.1

The Municipal Powers Act governs the existence and actions of prescribed local municipalities and regional county municipalities within Quebec.

In regard to animals, the Act authorizes a local municipality to impound, sell or eliminate a stray, dangerous, or sick animal. In addition, regional county municipalities may adopt by-laws relating to the possession or keeping of animals within regional parks.
