R v Gerling, 2014 BCSC 2203 (CanLII)

This is the sentencing hearing for Melvin Gerling for running a puppy mill. The dogs were in horrific circumstances and were eventually seized by the SPCA.

The Court considered it necessary for Gerling to be given jail time and a conditional sentence of six months. The Court also put Gerling on a curfew every day for the six months and ordered 50 hours of community service. The Court also imposed a 20 year prohibition on owning, having the custody or control or residing in the same premises of any dogs under s. 447.1(a) of the Criminal Code.
